The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities.
Benjamin E. Mays
As we always say; The First step towards improving your emotional intelligence quotient is by being able to identify what exactly you are feeling. In order to be meaningfully successful in all aspects of your life you need to understand the difference between being content and complacent. In the course of one’s life, it is possible to feel complacent more than once but it would be a shame if one succumbed to that phase. Also, One cannot be happy if there is no sense of contentment. Though contentment and complacency are used interchangeably, they are starkly different. Understanding these emotions clearly and correctly will help you evaluate your current self in order to become the better version of yourself.
Definitions
Contentment is an emotional state where one is happy with what he/she has and think of moving ahead in life with the sense of satisfaction and happiness with their current situation.
Complacency is being aware that the situation needs to be improved or changed and yet not working for the betterment of it. Complacency is thinking that “the situation cannot be changed and so there is no point in working for it.”
Causes
Contentment is at the end of the tunnel called “Gratefulness”. Being grateful for the things you have in life is the main reason for being content. This appreciation for the things you have in life makes yourself push towards achieving more and better in your life.
Complacency is when you give up trying even when you know there is a need for change. You don’t want to try because it is hard and anyways things are going okay as of know though there is scope for improvement. Thus, Living life never to realize your full potential.
